January CTOC Julia Davis Park and BSU Meet January 18

This will be a classic meet in a city park and university campus setting. Meet center in Julia Davis park south of the Zoo, near footbridge crossing the Boise river to the BSU campus. Follow signs, It will be suitable for beginners who want a first-time experience using a map and compass to navigate around and learn about orienteering and orienteering procedures. Experienced CTOC members will provide instructions and get novice orienteers started. Longer courses extending into BSU campus and surrounding areas will be available for intermediate and advanced orienteers. Advanced orienteers will find their course to have all of the quick twists and turns of a national competition.

When: Saturday, January 18. Starts from 11 AM. Starts close at 1 PM. Course closes at 2PM.

Local meet fees paid at the start desk on the day of the meet:
Single meet (day) dues: $10 per person/team, free for members
Single Junior (up to 20 years old): $5 per person/team, free for members
If more than one map is needed for a team, a small additional fee may be needed per the discretion of the meet director depending on printing costs.

Registration process tomorrow is expected to be crowded as many may arrive at the same time. To expedite your registration we encourage to bring a printed and signed registration and waver form that may be accessed at this link
Reminder that the meet center will be located South of the Zoo close to the footbridge crossing the river to the BSU campus. Look for CTOC directional signs and our tent with white and orange control flags. 
There will be experienced club members starting at 10:30am at the meet center to conduct introductory clinics. Join one of these groups after your registration to learn orienteering basics before going to your first course.
Please bring a compass if you have one. There will be a number of compasses available for a nominal $1 rental charge but their supply may be limited.
Beginner course will be an easy 1.3 km and 6 controls course around the Zoo. Participants on the course will use pin punching to register at each control.
Intermediate 3.8 km and 14 controls course will venture into the BSU campus and newly mapped areas. We will use SI electronic punching for the course. SI sticks will be available for a nominal $2 rental charge. Beginner course participants are encouraged to try this longer and advanced course free of charge.
Advanced 5.6 km and 23 controls course will traverse newly mapped areas for about 2/3 of the length. SI electronic punching will be used for the course.
There will be snow on ground and may be icy in places. Exercise your best judgement and be cautious. Dress for the outdoor outing according to the weather. We will have water and some snacks available at the center for your refreshment.
