We had a great clear day with somewhat cooler temperatures for the Thorn Creek meet. There was a good turnout of a variety of people from Boise, Colorado, California, and McCall locals. I’ve included assumed club affiliations in the results for fun since we don’t often get people from other clubs. The Boyle Wilson family split into two groups and did great on the difficult advanced course, Kirsten blazed through the rugged intermediate course. Dense woods and swampy valleys made for slow and difficult going in areas on the advanced and intermediate courses.
Several local search and rescue members gave the courses a try with Brad making a good effort and gaining second place on the advanced course behind Sergey who remarked the course “was tough” when he got in. There was gratitude for the controls which were hung high for easier visibility and the easier last couple controls. Wayne found the start late and got a late start on the intermediate course and ran afoul of the dense marshy valley woods and had to cut his run short.
Cory discovered the stream he planned to jump was more of a pond just a bit late and fell in for a full immersion and his map was destroyed and was lucky to find his way back. The Novice course had quite a few takers and my friend Anjie who had done a lot of orienteering as a schoolgirl in Siberia enjoyed it so much she did it again with her friends Adriana family that she had called and encouraged to try it.
