Hidden Springs Motala in The Slump

Based on current conditions and the weather forecast for Saturday we will be holding our January 24 meet in the hills. The ground is clear of snow and is firm enough early in the early morning.
This meet will be a four-loop motala in The Slump. The Slump is a small area with complex terrain. Consequently, we will not be using a standard orienteering map. Saturday's map differs from the standard map in several important ways. The scale is 1:2500. The contour interval is two feet. There are only two trees on the map and a lot of bitterbrush and sagebrush. Most of the bitterbrush and sagebrush has been mapped individually with green dots. There are many boulders. Most of these boulders are in boulder fields and are mapped with the boulder field symbol. No individual boulders are mapped except where a boulder is a feature related to a control.

The Slump is a 25 minute walk from the parking area located at https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zjRm8-CiaQ0g.khkWXb_XAJCg .   Registration will begin at 8:00 AM and continue until 8:30. Please find the event liability waiver on this web site and complete it before arriving at registration. Also, please review the fee schedule and bring the correct fee. At 8:30 AM we will walk to the location for the mass start. It takes about 25 minutes to walk to the start.

Each orienteer will receive a packet with four maps. The first three maps are scrambled so that orienteers will randomly begin on one of three loops. All orienteers will finish with the same fourth loop.

CAUTION: The slump has several boulder fields. Take special care that you do not dislodge a boulder either on yourself or on another orienteer.
