Hope to see you at the ski orienteering meet this SUNDAY 2/22 in McCall. The meet will be at the Little Bear Basin Nordic ski area; the trailhead is improved with a changing yurt and restroom. This area has an extensive and beautiful trail system. Skate or classic skis are allowed and preferred, I will get more info on snowshoes but in the past there has been trouble with using them on the groomed trails. All controls will be located close to trails for skate skiers, but I would recommend also bringing along your classic skis in case of new snow conditions. Course details will follow. The nordic trail fee is $10 per person in addition to our normal meet fees. Dogs are allowed on the Novice course only and there is an extra fee of $2.00 per dog.
Click here to view a map of the trails at Bear Basin.
To get to the Bear Basin trailhead you go up to the highest point on highway 55 (a couple miles headed west out of McCall, before the Little Ski Hill lodge) and turn north (right) on Club Hill Rd. for 1/2 mile, the parking lot is just off to the right where the road makes a sharp turn left. There is a restroom and changing yurt. Starts 11 - 1pm.
Also, don't forget you can register on-site, or print out the Registration Form at home, fill it in and bring it with you to the meet. That way you won't have to worry about frozen pens or cold fingers. Just show up, grab a map, and you're on your way.
